We are in day 2 of our kitchen organization series and today we are going to be talking about all things tupperware! I don’t know about you, but tupperware can get seriously out of hand in my kitchen if I’m not constantly staying on top of it! It seems to multiply before my eyes. That’s why keeping my tupperware organized is so essential.
After many bouts of trial and error with organizing my tupperware, I’ve come to a system that really works well for both myself and my husband. There are three general rules we try to follow when it comes to keeping our tupperware organized:
- We limit the amount of tupperware containers we keep.
- We only keep like sets of tupperware.
- We only store what we actually use.
I have one set of glass tupperware and one set of plastic tupperware. While I would love all glass eventually, plastic just makes more sense for us with young kids right now. 
We always use glass for things that we plan to reheat.
I’ve chosen to store my tupperware with lids and containers together and stacked. We’ve also tried separating the lids from the containers. While this makes putting things away somewhat easier, I found that it quickly became disorganized and was hard to find what I needed when I was putting away leftovers.
The main bulk of our tupperware is stored in our Lazy Susan corner cabinet on the top shelf. It’s right below a large open counter space and near our utensil drawers.
There are many options as to where you can store your tupperware, but I definitely recommend making sure you have plenty of counter space nearby so you will have space to use it when it’s needed.
I also have a few larger pieces of tupperware stored in the cabinet next door. These are for when I make large batches of baked goods like cookies or muffins, which is sometimes a daily occurrence! I love to cook and bake so making sure I have plenty of storage for these items is important to me.
Could I get by with less food storage? Probably. But I have the space and I choose to keep this because it’s a part of what brings me joy…baking.
As you can see I actually have a completely empty section in my cabinet. There is a very good reason for this and I think it’s a very important one to talk about!
I have plans to purchase two new pieces of kitchen gadgets in the next few months. One is an InstantPot and the other is a pancake griddle. I’m not only budgeting the money for these items, but I’m budgeting the space for them as well.
You see, I try not to purchase new things if I don’t have the space to store them. I’ve researched both of these items and have decided that they are items that I think I will use often and love. So I made room for them in my home.
I think many times we make purchases on a whim without having a plan for the item. It then becomes clutter. After doing this repeatedly for several months or years, homes can become buried under all of the stuff that we simply don’t have room for.
I encourage you to create both a financial budget and a space budget for new items you want to bring into your home.
My tupperware organization is super simple. I may have a lot more tupperware in my kitchen than you or you might think that I’m seriously a minimalist when it comes to tupperware. However, I think the key is finding your sweet spot. Only keep what you use and purge the rest.
